Our Anniversary

John and I spent our anniversary together today (or at least a few hours of it) at the Dallas Arboretum. Believe it or not, I had never been there.

We will have to go back (with a bottle of wine?) and spend a lot longer!

Coppell Farmer’s Market

What a great little market! Some friends and I went out to peruse some locally grown fare and I was pleasantly surprised by how much I found.  There were local meat vendors, fresh eggs, honey, cheese, nuts and all sorts of crafts.

I ended up coming home with some honey, some of the most incredible organic blueberries, pecan brittle, jasmine Shea butter for my poor garden hands, mushrooms, a jar of “Sweet & Sour Lime” seasoning and a gorgeous organic head of cabbage.  And there was not a single sign of a distributor warehouse presence.

I hope we can make our outing a regular event!

Blueberry Ridge Farm

Blueberry Ridge Farm is another one of the vendors that we met at the Plano “Live Green Expo.”  Jerry and Jill Graves were so sweet to hang around and talk with us even though it was time to pack up and head home.

Blueberries are something that John and I have tried to grow several times, but they just don’t like our alkaline soils here.  We even tried the variety that was supposed to be more tollerant, but we managed to kill them too.  I can’t wait to make a trip out to Blueberry Ridge Farms this summer to pick some blueberries.  The season goes from around the second week in June through the end of July.  And Blueberry Ridge is all organic!

Samantha just want to go ride the ponies, but I bet she will eat her fair share of blueberries.

Rife Vineyards

We have grapes!

We have grapes!

Rife Vineyards had one of  the booths we were able to visit at the Plano Live Green Expo.  They are a completely organic vineyard right here in Texas!  Evidently, they are the only one in Texas – other than our very own grapes pictured here.  I’m so excited to find them because until now, I have only been able to find organic vineyards in California and who wants to ship something all the way from California?

At the Expo, we had a great time talking with Sharon Rife.  We bought a small jar of grape jam, which we haven’t had yet, and a small bottle of Champanelle grape juice.  It was wonderful!

What an incredible nursery!  They have a lot of hard to find native Texas plants and a gorgeous garden to walk through.  They also have a lot of organic products.
